About Baby Lulu: Like most new fashion ventures, Baby Lulu began unexpectedly. It was Erin Murphy’s formative years that interested her in children’s clothing. At the age of 4, Erin began to make clothes for her pet frogs and at 10, she was sewing clothes for her niece and nephew. This creative expression became a passion as she left British Columbia and headed for Los Angeles to study design in college. Erin worked as a design assistant for three years, then began selling her hand painted overalls to children’s clothing stores in the Los Angeles area to earn extra money. The popularity of these items inspired her to leave her position as a textile artist at a women’s dress company and start Baby Lulu in 1992. Interest in her designs spread quickly, and within a few months she was filling orders for some of the top retailers in Los Angeles. Uninspired by the fabrics available, Erin realized she would have to take matters into her own hands so she set off to create a line of beautiful children’s clothing distinctive for its unique styling and original spirit. Using her love of painting and background in textile prints, Erin started designing and manufacturing her own fabrics.
